Proficiency plays a key role in CIRO’s mission to protecting investors, to providing efficient and consistent regulation, and to building confidence in Canada’s capital markets. The new Proficiency model aims to raise the proficiency bar; allow for greater currency, relevancy and responsiveness to industry changes; enable greater alignment with firm training; and lower the cost of licensing and remove entry barriers for end-users.
The webcast features CIRO’s Harvey Asiedu-Akrofi, Legal Counsel, Proficiency, and Rita Kwok, Senior Proficiency Specialist. In this session, presenters will:
- Provide an overview of the background and objectives of the Proficiency model;
- Discuss the framework; and
- Provide guidance on the Exemptions, Recognition, Transition and Validity Provisions in advance of the January 1, 2026 implementation date.
The webcast will be available on July 17, 2025.
There will be 0.5 Compliance continuing education credits available under the Investment Dealer (formerly IIROC) CE program. This webcast is not eligible for MFD CE credit.
